Healing from Past Scars

I was reading in John 20:19-31 this morning, the story of when Christ appeared to the disciples after his Resurrection. He spoke peace to their hearts & gave them a mission. He breathed the Holy Spirit over them and talked about forgiveness. And then He came back again, and did something else, He showed them his scars.

I wondered when I read that, why He still carried the scars. His body had been transformed, yet He appeared in the flesh as the man they knew. So why did He choose to still carry the scars from deep wounds that had pierced His hands and side. Wouldn't it have been better to just heal it over completely?  God's whisper this morning said, "Because the scars are a part of His beautiful story."

They recognized Him by his scars. It validated that He was real. It was a reminder of the great price that had been paid. The scars are a part of who He is.

The scars we carry are all a part of our story too. It may not feel beautiful when it's all unfolding, it may feel rather broken and hurtful and hard. But when we are wounded, especially by those we love and trust, or even by the body of Christ, or other believers, God has the power to fully heal and bring us through.

Deep inside they are reminders of where we have been. They are the story of what God has done.

Don't ever feel the need to hide them away or pretend like it didn't happen. Know that Christ understands all we walk through in this life, more than we can even imagine. And He is bringing great purpose in it all. He's the only One who can turn our trials around for good.

Do those scars bring you sadness or do you embrace them and let them remind you that you are an over comer?

I believe they are reminders of where we have been. They are the story of what God has done. I hope you don’t feel the need to hide your scars or pretend like it didn't happen. Know that Christ understands all we walk through in this life, more than we can even imagine. And He is bringing great purpose in it all. He's the only One who can turn our trials around for good.  Be assured He sees where you've walked and His love surrounds you and carries you straight through.

Thank you for letting me share these thoughts with you. I hope you are encouraged as you continue to pour out God’s love to others.
