How You Can Find Contentment in Life

It seems in life we are always in a hurry for the next season. We are always wishing for something else that’s different than what we already have. Even when we get what we were waiting for we soon move on to wanting something else.

Make Sure You Don't Have Idols in Your Life
Anything that gets in the way of your faith in God is an idol. When we worship something or someone more than God, it's called idolatry. Worship? I don't worship anyone or anything, or do I? Have you ever held a friendship or relationship up higher than your relationship with God?
For example, I saw two friends of mine get together for a night out on social media. I was crushed. It seriously hurt my heart that I was not invited. It felt like middle school all over again. So childish, right?
This friendship meant a lot to me and to see how close their friendship was really felt like rejection. I immediately felt the Holy Spirit tug at my heart that this is how God feels whenever I choose something or someone over Him. I was aware that the pain I was feeling was just a taste of what God feels when we lose our first love for Him.
Even in full-time ministry, my love and devotion for God can slip away and leak out if I am not careful. I don't want to go through the motions or fake it, I want to stay close to Him and let Him fulfill my needs for satisfaction and contentment.
God is the only one who can truly satisfy you. Contentment is a state of mind that can only be maintained if we stay close to our Creator God. He longs to communicate with us and show us His heart and His love for us!
"I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God." Ephesians 3:16-19 is for you!
If something is only bringing you down and making you feel discouraged the smartest thing to do is to get rid of it! I stopped following my friend on Instagram so that I would not continually see her spending time with another friend. That may sound drastic to you, but it's the only way I can guard my heart from feeling pain for now.
If the Holy Spirit of God has convicted your heart of something or someone that has gotten first place in your life instead of God, than I encourage to get rid of it. It’s worth the effort. Get rid of the things that make you feel like less than and start focusing on your relationship with God. We are all on a spiritual journey and God wants to take you higher, deeper, and to new levels of faith in Him.
It’s an uphill journey but one that will always be worth it. Your eternal destiny depends on it.
